Wait…so if the 70s French song inspired the boom in Brazilian girls being named Aline…then why don’t they actually pronounce the name like they do in the song?! The song never once says Ah-lee-nee, it says Ah-leen / Ah-lihn, over and over. Do they pronounce the name Celine as Ceh-lee-nee? Guess it must be a cultural thing then if they do.
Fun fact the name Aline was originally a male name way back in the ancient times (back when France was called Gaul) kind of like how the name Ariel is now a popular female name but it was also originally a male name. Interesting how time changes things like that, don’t you think?

That’s because in Brazil we pronounce all vowels of a word or name, including the very last one. We can also say Aline with an /e/ sound at the end.
