In Setswana (spoken more commonly in Boswana and South Africa), and in South-Sotho (Southern-Sotho) or Sesotho (spoken more commonly in Lesotho and South Africa), and also in North-Sotho (Northern-Sotho) or Sepedi (spoken more commonly in South Africa), the name “Lerato” does not define gender; hence it can be given to either a boy or a girl and it will have the same meaning i.e. Love.

Lerato is actually considered as a girls name more than a boy’s name and it is very popular in South Africa. Lerato means love in every African language e.g. “Lerato la ka” meaning “My love”.
I think the name really does have an impact on your life because (my name being Lerato) my life revolves around Love all the time. It’s like I have the urge to love and try to charge people for the good with love.
I would honestly name my child after me because I believe love is beautiful always.
